August~ And its Gift of Quiet
“Remember the quiet wonders. The world has more need of then than it has for warriors.” ~Charles de Lint
Each year I strive to find Augusts’ Quiet ; and believe me Dear Reader it is difficult. August, I fear, tends to be rather noisy
First of all , in my part of the world at least, August is hot. Too often very hot. And hot, to my mind, does not equal Quiet. Hot is chaotic, unruly, overflowing with activity and too many things to do.
And check them off as feverously as you may, the list goes on. Seeming to add to itself as September looms in the not so far off distance; with its fall clothing and back to school sales and the idea, set into our minds from childhood, that Autumn will too soon be upon us and we had better straighten up, get into line, and continue on with whatever the serious business of our life is.
{Though in a month’s time, I warn you, I will attempt to dissuade you from that belief!}
So for now –discover and embrace the Quiet which August does indeed hold. We’ll have to listen carefully, taking each moment as we find them and enjoying to the fullest the still of starlit nights, and warm morning breezes.
