January was our month of Illumination; gifting us with the courage to forge and follow the path ahead. And February? It’s cold winds and iced ground bring us the Gift of Realization. As we continue our journey through winter, watching as each day grows a bit longer and the wheel of year turns its steady way toward spring.
To many of the ancients the month of February was believed to be sacred to the gods of wisdom. Some viewed it as a linking axis between this world and the next; it was seen as a time of “clear vision” and celebrated by rites and festivals of purification.
In today’s modern world however, February is portrayed merely a bleak month filled with snow, cold, and sleet. A month, unless your or a loved one’s birthday happens to fall within the time of the amethyst, whose only holidays are the (rather questionable) Groundhog and Valentine’s Day, and which has even had at least one or two of its days stolen by the other months!
February is also the month of the Leap Year – which can be either a good or bad thing, depending upon your point of view. (And naturally we shall choose to view it as good, as will be discussed at month’s end).
February shall be the month of Realization. After beginning our journey blessed by January’s courage, we will use this rather short, chilly month as a time of introspection and preparation.
Whether or not we believe that it is indeed a time of clear vision, isn’t it still possible to make it so, each in our own fashion? By embracing our Inner Child. By continuing to expand and grow.
Welcome February!
{This is what it looks like at my house this year...}
